Everyone’s asking: will there be a World Ballet Day in 2025?

On October 16th, the answer became YES!! Please join me in welcoming “Access becomes Art: World Ballet Day 2025”

Here’s the news from WorldBalletDay.com

Wednesday 12 November 2025 marks the return of World Ballet Day, a global celebration of dance.

Building on over a decade of innovation, this year’s theme focuses on radical accessibility – inviting artists and audiences to experience ballet in transformative new ways.

Ballet companies worldwide will stream and share content for Access becomes Art: World Ballet Day 2025 from their individual platforms.

Companies participating include The Australian Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, Northern Ballet, The Norwegian National Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet and San Francisco Ballet. If you go to the World Ballet Day site and click on each company’s logo and name, it will take you to their website where you can find out more about their activity for the day. You can learn more, as well, by going to The Royal Ballet’s page on the event, which explains:

Under the direction of Kevin O’Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet, and curated and conceived by Robert Binet, choreographer and Artistic Director of Fall for Dance North Festival, this year’s theme focuses on radical accessibility – inviting artists and audiences to experience ballet in transformative new ways. Companies around the world will explore social questions about accessibility and co-create work with disabled perspectives to offer broader access to ballet.

Here’s a glimpse into what the day will hold (and a description of what immersive descriptive audio is):

I will be updating this page with new information as I discover more. In the meantime, enjoy a World Ballet Day recording from the past. It’s The Royal Ballet’s entire 2023 segment, an amazingly generous five-hour recording. It has always thrilled me to watch the big ballet companies’ dancers immersed in their company class and that’s what it starts with. You’ll need to fast-forward three or so minutes before the recording starts.

Amazing, huh? And now, for your reading pleasure …

  1. Vivian, I found that Instagram post too. It’s all about getting views, I guess. When you dig deeper, you find the accounts originate elsewhere (like Bangladesh for the FB account). I tell people to head straight to The Royal Ballet & Opera website, because they’ve been the leader in this since its inception. If they are not saying a thing about a World Ballet Day 2025, there’s our answer.
